Irene Charalambides

Irene Charalambides was appointed the OSCE PA’s Special Representative on Fighting Corruption by OSCE PA President George Tsereteli (Georgia) in July 2019 and 2020, reappointed by Margareta Cederfelt (Sweden) in 2021 and 2022 and by Pia Kauma (Finland) in 2023.
Charalambides is an OSCE PA Vice-President and serves as Head of the Cyprus delegation to the Assembly. She was first elected in 2011 as a Member of Parliament. In the parliamentary elections of 2016 and 2021 she was the first woman to be elected with the highest number of preferential votes among all Cypriot MPs.
She currently serves as the Chairperson of the House Standing Committee on Human Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women in the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus. She is also a Member of the House Standing Committee on Development Plans and Public Expenditure Control and of the House Standing Committee on Institutions, Merit and the Commissioner for Administration (Ombudsman).
Charalambides submitted a Private Bill for the protection of whistleblowers which was adopted as legislation in 2022. Charalambides also spearheaded efforts to increase transparency in the judiciary and the House of Representatives.
