Evgenia Chamilou
Evgenia Chamilou is a recently qualified Lawyer specialising in Public International Law and Human Rights, who is particularly active in the areas of youth involvement, environmental peacebuilding, and climate diplomacy, as well as an advocate for SDGs 13, 16 and 17. She studied LLB Law at the University of Warwick (2017-2020) and LLM with specialism in Public International Law from The London School of Economics and Political Science (2021). In the past, she worked for the European Parliament, European Court of Human Rights at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, and the International Law Section at the Law Office of the Republic of Cyprus. She has been a UN Youth Champion for Environment and Peace, the Delegate of Cyprus at the 2021 Youth4Climate: Driving Ambition and Pre-COP26 summits in Milan and the 2022 Youth4Climate: Powering Action flagship global event in New York held on the margins of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly. From being a co-shaper of the topic of youth driving ambition at the multilateral level of the Youth4Climate Manifesto in 2021, she co-moderated a deep-dive session with the former Italian Climate Envoy H.E. Ambassador Alessandro Modiano on non-state actors’ engagement in climate action in 2022. Her advocacy work can be traced in many local, national, European, and international initiatives, such as being the Youth Delegate of Cyprus to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, a nominated Young European of the Year for 2022, and an Associate Fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society. Most recently, she co-founded the Local Conference of Youth on Climate Change in Cyprus (LCOY Cyprus) endorsed by YOUNGO/UNFCCC. Recently, she was elected as the President of the Cyprus Youth DiplomaCY non-governmental organisation and served as the 5th President of the Youth House of Representatives.
